The GSLG is pleased to offer a bursary to fund an early career library professional / library para-professional / library assistant at the Group’s 40th anniversary conference in Switzerland, based in the city of Basel, from 15-19 September 2026.
The programme is scheduled to include visits and related talks to Basel University Library, Bern University Library, the Swiss National Library, and the Zentralbibliothek Zürich. (The GSLG recommends that the successful bursary recipient book the four nights’ conference accommodation at either the IBIS Bahnhof Basel or IBIS Budget Basel; the Group anticipates that is where all or most of our conference attendees will stay.)
The bursary will provide:
• up to £300 towards the cost of travel to and from the conference
• the cost of the four nights’ accommodation in Basel
• the conference fee of £60
• the conference dinner
• up to £250 for food and other costs directly related to conference attendance.
Applicants for the bursary should be early career library professionals / library para-professionals / library assistants working in a UK library, with an interest in German studies.
To apply for the bursary, please send an email—to be received by no later than 13 April 2026—attaching a one A4-page letter setting out why you would like to attend the conference and what you hope to gain from it, along with your CV, to:
Dr Christopher Skelton-Foord
New College Library, New College, University of Oxford, Holywell Street, Oxford OX1 3BN
email: christopher.skelton-foord[at]new.ox.ac.uk
We anticipate applicants will be informed by late April whether they have been successful in securing the bursary, and with further conference details. The successful bursary applicant should plan to arrive in Basel on 15 September 2026 and return to the UK on 19 September.
